Ceramic Bearings
QUANTUM ceramic hybrid skateboard bearings are the only ceramic hybrids designed for high-impact street and park skating. By pairing silicon nitride ceramic balls with precision steel races, they roll faster, stay smoother longer, and resist the wear that slows ordinary bearings down.
The Fusion and Diamonds series are our flagship ceramic hybrids — maximum speed and durability for skaters who want the best. Isotope bearings bring ceramic-hybrid performance to everyday sessions, while the Atom series offers a fast, affordable entry into ceramic speed. The Fusion series blends ceramic-hybrid technology into a versatile all-around bearing.
From street and park to transition, cruising, and surf-skate, QUANTUM ceramic hybrids deliver a noticeably faster roll with less maintenance. Upgrade your setup and feel the difference that precision engineering makes.
A ceramic hybrid pairs steel rings with ceramic rolling elements, cutting weight and friction where the bearing actually rolls — so the wheel spins up faster, holds speed longer, and generates less heat. QUANTUM builds hybrids with two ceramic materials, zirconia (ZrO2) and silicon nitride (Si3N4), and adds its Diamond Matrix coating at the top of the line for riders who want the lowest maintenance, highest durability, as well as the lowest friction.

A hybrid uses ceramic rolling elements inside steel rings, so you get most of the friction and weight benefit while the steel rings keep absorbing impact. A full ceramic bearing — QUANTUM's Eclipse Series, with ZrO2 rings and Si3N4 rolling elements — removes steel from the bearing entirely for the lowest friction and the fastest roll.

ZrO2 (zirconia) is the tougher, more impact-tolerant ceramic, which is why it is used in Isotopes and Diamonds for street and park skating. Si3N4 (silicon nitride) is lighter and harder, which favors sustained speed — it is used in the Atoms and Fusions for transition and cruising.
-
Ceramic rolling elements are lighter than steel, so there is less rotational mass to spin up and lower centrifugal load at speed. The ceramic surface is also harder and smoother against the polished raceway, which lowers rolling friction and heat build-up. The result is a wheel that reaches speed with fewer pushes and holds the speed longer between pushes.

Not in hybrid form. QUANTUM hybrids use chrome steel inner and outer rings precisely for that reason - to handle skateboarding's shock loads. The Isotope bearings are built specifically for high-impact street. Treat them like a quality bearing, maintain them, and they are a durability upgrade, not a liability.

For street and park, choose Isotopes (ZrO2) — or Diamonds if you want the Diamond Matrix coating and maximum durability and performance. For transition, cruising, and downhill, choose the Atoms (Si3N4) for speed retention, or the Fusions if you want the same Si3N4 setup with the Diamond Matrix (DMx) coating which provides ultra-low friction and extreme durability. All hybrids use the same 608 fit and the same standard kit contents, and they are maintained the same way as QUANTUM's steel bearings.
